Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Beginning the week of January 17, 2012 your child will participate in a series of tests called Measures of Academic ProgressTM (MAP). This is a new activity for District 20, but MAP tests are taken by over 11 million students across the United States each year. The MAP test is used in the determination of your child's current instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year in the areas of English, Reading, and Mathematics. Your child will take the tests on a computer.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Over the testing period, your child will spend a total of about 3-4 hours completing these tests.
All students in grades K-8 will take the MAP assessment in Language Usage (English), Reading, and Mathematics this school year in January and again this spring. Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, students in District 20 will take the MAP in the fall, winter, and spring of each year. You will receive a report on your child's MAP performance after each testing period, and following the spring testing period of each year, you will receive a report showing your child's overall growth.
