Keeneyville Elementary School District 20

Philosophy of Technology in Education

VISION

The use of technology in District 20 is intended to prepare all students to be technologically competent individuals who utilize available resources to express themselves, solve problems, and explore emerging technologies. The District 20 Graduate Profile, Illinois Learning Standards, and national standards guide the use of technology so that students leave District 20 as individuals who have gained the skills to flourish in a technological society.

CURRICULUM

The use of technology and technology education in District 20 are driven by the curricula of the various content areas, relevant and timely staff development, and sufficient materials, equipment and resources. The technology curriculum map, developed to guide the integration of technology in the classroom, is based on essential questions relating to national technology standards for students. The activities encompass the spectrum of technology and learning as identified by Education Technology Planners, Inc. ETP’s spectrum includes Literacy uses, Adapting uses and Transforming uses of technology.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Staff development is a well-planned, ongoing professional development program that is tied to the district’s curriculum goals. It is based upon the latest information as it relates to best practices for teaching and learning. Staff development is designed with built-in evaluation and sustained by adequate

financial and staff support. These elements, in addition to access to the most current and most pertinent software and resources, are essential for teachers to use technology appropriately to promote learning for all students in the classroom.

TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES

The district’s technology plan provides for the acquisition of new hardware and software, opportunities for engaged learning activities and professional development, and community involvement. In addition, the plan provides for the replacement of aging equipment so that students have access to the most current technological tools and resources.
