Thank You Board Members!
On November 15, school districts across Illinois were encouraged to recognize the service of their Board of Education members by thanking them for all they do for our district. Our District joined the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) in their statewide campaign of #ThankABoardMember recognizing school board members who work tirelessly to ensure all students are provided an opportunity and resources for a successful future.
At the November Board Meeting, a video was presented to the Board to show them how grateful we are for their hard work on behalf of Keeneyville School District 20!
Board Meeting Highlights
- The Board approved consent agenda items including routine financial and personnel reports. Other consent agenda items included the approval of the following: Salt Intergovernmental Agreement with the Village of Hanover Park and the School Maintenance Project Grant.
- The Board Approved Action Items including: Tentative 2024 Tax Levy for All Funds and the Siemens Multi-Year Contract Renewal.
- The Board President's Report included the Board Self-Monitoring Report and Board Committee Reports.
- Mr. Brian Marroquin presented the Financial Dashboard and the Tentative Tax Levy for 2024.
- Dr. Castillo shared the Superintendent's Report to the Board, which included the Student & Staff Attendance Dashboard and the Discipline Report.
- The Administrators submitted written reports to the Board, but did not present oral reports at this meeting. Some of the highlights included the following:
- The first Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) Workshop in a series of four presentations was held on October 15 with a strong parent turnout. The speaker presented in Spanish about "The 6 Needs of Every Child" and the district provided food, childcare, and translation devices for those who did not speak Spanish.
- Spring Wood GATE students recently held their first EXPO, featuring professional looking presentations created in Canva to showcase their creativity and skill. The students are now working on their next technology-based projects based on creating book talks and trailers. Each grade level uses a unique platform to produce their content: 6th Grade uses Slides created in Canva; 7th Grade uses Virtual Reality content in CoSpaces, and 8th Grade uses Book trailers produced in WeVideo.
- Erin's Law presentations were given at both elementary schools to provide sexual abuse prevention to help children gain confidence to have a voice, and to speak up in cases of abuse. The program also teachers educators and school officials to be able to better recognize signs of an abused child.
- The District observed School Safety Week October 21 to 25 to share information with students, staff, and families on various safety topics, including: Emergency Response Protocols and Parent Preparation, Transportation Safety, Unity Day (anti-bullying), and Student Wellness and Supports. During Unity Day, all of our schools engaged in lessons and activities on anti-bullying to show that District 20 stands united against bullying behavior.
