What are Board Briefs?

Board Briefs will be published following Keeneyville District 20's Board of Education monthly meetings to share highlights from the presentations, discussion items, action items, and administrator reports. Board Briefs will not replace the official board minutes, but will provide staff and community members with an opportunity to stay up-to-date about Board meetings and actions.

Public Participation

All board meetings are held in-person at Spring Wood Middle School, 5540 Arlington Drive E, Hanover Park, IL in the Innovation Center (2nd Floor), unless otherwise noted. The meetings are also shown live via Zoom, and a recording of each meeting can be found on the district website at https://www.esd20.org/board-of-education/board-meetings.

The Board welcomes and encourages the community to attend board meetings and ask questions during Public Comment in-person (not virtually). You are asked to limit your comments to 3 minutes. Please understand the Board will not respond to your questions and concerns during the meeting. A member of the administrative team and/or board member will follow-up with you after the meeting.

Congratulations Student Ignite Award Winners!

The Board recognized the hard work of our Student Ignite Award winners for Trimester 1. Teachers from all schools shared the many reasons why they nominated students in 4th through 8th Grade, presenting each student with a certificate and small gift. Family members proudly watched their student's moment in the spotlight!

Board Meeting Highlights

Prior to the Board Meeting, a Public Hearing was held for the 2024 Final Tax Levy.
The Board approved consent agenda items including routine financial and personnel reports. Other consent agenda items included the approval of policies, the annual E-Rate funding, and the Triple I expenditures.
The Board Approved Action Items including: Final Tax Levy for All Funds, 2024 Supplemental Tax Levy and approval of SSCIO Contract Renewal.
The Board President's Report included the Board Self-Monitoring Report and Board Committee Reports including Finance and Facilities, Parent Teacher Advisory, Wellness and SASED.
The Strategic Plan Goal Area reports and Financial Dashboard were presented.
Dr. Castillo shared the Superintendent's Report to the Board, which included the Student & Staff Attendance Dashboard. Other information shared included:
- 2025-26 School Calendar which is aligned with the Lake Park calendar.
- Inclement Weather procedures and reasons for deciding whether to call for an emergency snow day or e-Learning day.
- ECC Playground equipment was installed this Fall!
- Winter Break will be held 12/23 through 1/3, with classes resuming on Monday, January 6.
The Administrators submitted written and oral reports to the Board.
