Student Ignite Awards

The Board recognized students from across the district with Student Ignite Awards for their academic, social-emotional, and extra curricular achievements.  Many families were in attendance to support their children and hear the accolades from the staff who nominated their students.  The district is grateful to partner with our supportive parents/guardians and amazing staff to encourage growth and learning in our classrooms!  Congratulations to all of the students who earned awards tonight!

Board Meeting Highlights

  • A public hearing on the 2023 Final Tax Levy was held and the Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Operations gave a presentation to the Board.
  • The Board also approved consent agenda items including routine financial and personnel reports.
  • Action items included the approval of the Final 2023 Tax Levy for All Funds and the SSCIP Contract Renewal.
  • The Board President's Report included Board Self-Monitoring and Board Committee reports.  Board Members reported on recent meetings of the District Finance & Facility Committee, Teaching & Learning Committee, Climate & Culture Committee, School Engagement Committee, Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee, Wellness Committee, and the SASED Report.
  • Dr. Castillo shared the Superintendent's Report to the Board, which included the Student & Staff Attendance Dashboard, and the following:
    • The Calendar Committee met on 12/11/23 to discuss the 2024-25 school year calendar and any needed changes.  As in previous years, District 20's goal is to have a calendar similar to Lake Park High School and the other feeder districts.  All districts are currently working on their calendars now and District 20 will continue meeting and aim to bring the calendar for first ready by the Board next month.
    • Inclement Weather:  In the event that schools are closed due to weather, the safety of our students and staff always comes first.  The Lake Park area superintendents confirm to make an informed decision before closing school, but districts make independent decisions on what is best for their community (i.e., snow day vs. e-learning day).  If school is cancelled, a robocall will be sent out as soon as possible, in addition to posting the information on the district website, social media, and messaging to our families and staff.
    • Happy Holidays:  Schools will be closed for Winter Break beginning Monday, December 25 to Friday, January 5.  Classes will resume on Monday, January 8.
  • The Administrators submitted written reports to the Board, but did not give oral presentations at the meeting.
