What are Board Briefs?

Board Briefs will be published following Keeneyville District 20's Board of Education monthly meetings to share highlights from the presentations, discussion items, action items, and administrator reports. Board Briefs will not replace the official board minutes, but will provide staff and community members with an opportunity to stay up-to-date about Board meetings and actions.

Public Participation

All board meetings are held in-person at Spring Wood Middle School, 5540 Arlington Drive E, Hanover Park, IL in the Innovation Center (2nd Floor), unless otherwise noted. The meetings are also shown live via Zoom, and a recording of each meeting can be found on the district website at https://www.esd20.org/board-of-education/board-meetings.

The Board welcomes and encourages the community to attend board meetings and ask questions during Public Comment in-person (not virtually). You are asked to limit your comments to 3 minutes. Please understand the Board will not respond to your questions and concerns during the meeting. A member of the administrative team and/or board member will follow-up with you after the meeting.

Welcome New Teachers!

At the September Board Meeting, it is a tradition to introduce and welcome all of the new teachers to Keeneyville School District 20. Principals from each school introduced each new teacher to the board, sharing a little about their background and their role in our district. It is a great time to meet the new staff face-to-face and welcome them to the Keeneyville D20 Family!

Board Meeting Highlights

The Board approved consent agenda items including routine financial and personnel reports. Other consent agenda items included the following items: EIS Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits Report for FY23, and the policies presented in August for first read.

The board approved several additional items, including the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan which was presented at the August Board Meeting.

The Board President's Report included the report from the Policy Committee and the SASED meeting.

The Board discussed and agreed on the timeline relating to filling the Vacant Board Seat which was announced on September 15, including the time frames for accepting applications (September 18 through September 29), interviewing candidates (week of October 10), and Board appointment (October 19).

The Superintendent's Report to the Board included the following:
- On October 3, our School Board will be recognized during the IASB Fall Division Meeting for engaging in activities that lead to excellence in local school governance in support of quality public education. Only 45 boards in Illinois will receive this School Board Governance Recognition this year. We are proud of District 20's Board of Education and all of their accomplishments!

No other reports from other administrators were presented at the meeting, but written reports were submitted to the Board.

Following the regular meeting, the Board conducted its annual Board Self-Evaluation which was facilitated by a representative from the Illinois Association of School Boards.
