PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF S/HE IS NOT FEELING WELL.  Contact your school office to report the absence and provide specific symptoms so that we can assist you with next steps.

HEALTH NOTICE (JANUARY 2025)

We are experiencing an upward trend of students being absent for various illnesses. While it's important for students to return to school as soon as possible, it is just as important to keep them home until they are well enough to participate in class for the full day and to help prevent the spread of illness to others.

In an effort to prevent the spread of illness throughout our schools please keep your students home until their symptoms have resolved.   If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse. We appreciate your efforts in helping us keep our students and staff healthy and safe.

We are seeing more Norovirus/Stomach Flu, Influenza A, and Pneumonia in our area.

Norovirus/Stomach Flu

About Norovirus - CDC

Norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. It is sometimes called the "stomach flu" or the "stomach bug." However, norovirus illness is not related to the flu, which is caused by the influenza virus. Norovirus causes acute gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach or intestines.

Most people with norovirus illness get better within 1 to 3 days, but they can still spread the virus for a few days after. There is no specific medicine to treat people with norovirus illness. Antibiotic drugs will not help treat norovirus infections because they fight bacteria, not viruses.

The CDC suggests that people with Norovirus/Stomach Flu stay home 2 days after symptoms stop to help prevent the spread of this illness.

Flu/Influenza A

Flu can cause mild to severe illness. Flu symptoms usually come on suddenly. People who have flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:
  • fever* or feeling feverish/chills -- *not everyone with flu will have a fever.
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • muscle or body aches
  • headaches
  • fatigue (tiredness)
  • some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults
People with flu are most contagious during the first three days of their illness. Some otherwise healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to five to seven days after becoming sick.

Antibiotics do not work against influenza viruses. Most people with flu have mild illness and do not need medical care or antiviral drugs. If you get sick with flu symptoms, in most cases, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people except to get medical care.
